Holy Family Hospital Welcomes Three New Physicians and a Midwife to its Medical Staff

Holy Family Hospital is pleased to welcome three new physicians and a midwife to our Medical Staff:

Nazaret Derkevorkian, MD, a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician has joined Dr. Yeghiazarians practice in Methuen. Dr. Derkevorkian specializes in adult medicine, geriatrics and prevention. He is fluent in Armenian, Arabic and Turkish. Prior to joining Holy Family, he practiced at Lynnfield Primary Care in Lynnfield, MA. He completed residencies in Family Practice at Boston Medical Center and Beverly Hospital and earned his medical degree from Yerevan State Medical Institute in Yerevan, Armenia.

Hannah K. Galvin, MD, FAAP, a Board-Certified Pediatrician has joined Holy Family Hospital’s Pediatric Health Center. She specializes in acute care, injury prevention, child abuse and neglect, and clinical informatics/information technology. Prior to joining Holy Family, she practiced at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Manchester. Dr. Galvin completed a combined pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Boston and Boston Medical Center. She earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School.

Ryan Scannell, MD, is Board-Certified in both Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery. He specializes in functional and cosmetic septorhinoplasty, MOHS reconstruction, maxillofacial trauma and reconstruction, pediatrics, thyroid surgery and sinus surgery. Prior to joining Holy Family, Dr. Scannell practiced at ENT Associates of New Hampshire in Laconia. Dr. Scannell completed a fellowship and residency with the University of Michigan’s Department of Otolaryngology and earned his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine.

She completed her medical education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Boston, February 14, 2012— To meet the challenge of rising health care costs and the demand from small businesses for more choices in high-quality, affordable health care, Steward Health Care and Fallon Community Health Plan today announced the launch of Steward Community Care, a new limited network product that offers comprehensive coverage with premium savings of at least 20%. The product offers plan designs with no deductible as well as options with deductibles for increased savings on monthly premiums.

Steward Community Care is available through FCHP for an effective date of April 1, 2012, to all small businesses in the product’s coverage area. An advantage for businesses is that Steward Community Care can be offered alongside any one of FCHP’s other network options. Steward Community Care also is available as the primary offering of the Retailers Associations of Massachusetts’ newly-approved group purchasing cooperative. This low cost product is the result of an innovative collaboration between a health plan and a health care system.

Steward Community Care is built around Steward Health Care’s high-quality network of ten community hospitals and 2,200 primary care physicians and specialists. Under the plan, clinically appropriate care will be delivered by a hospital or physician within the Steward network. Eric Dominguez, MD, named medical director of Steward Center for Pain Management of Saint Anne’s Hospital

Fall River, MA – Pain management specialist Eric Dominguez, MD, has been named medical director of the Steward Center for Pain Management at Saint Anne’s Hospital.

In his new role, Dr. Dominguez oversees the clinical operations at Saint Anne’s pain management centers in Swansea and Fall River. This includes five physicians specializing in pain medicine, addiction, and physical medicine, as well as psychologists and licensed mental health professionals specializing in behavioral medicine.

Board-certified in pain medicine by the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and in anesthesiology by the ABA, Dr. Dominguez brings a wealth of specialized experience to his leadership role. Prior to joining Saint Anne’s Hospital’s pain management medical staff in 2005, he served as medical director of the Center for Pain Medicine at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, VA, as well as staff anesthesiologist/active duty military physician at Portsmouth (VA) Naval Medical Center and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria, VA. His additional military experience included active duty at Fort Ord, CA.

Dr. Dominguez is a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in medicine. Prior to graduating from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Dominguez completed his bachelor of science degree at the University of Miami. He completed his internship at Framingham (MA) Union Hospital, residency in anesthesiology at Tufts-St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, where he was named chief resident, and a fellowship in pain management at Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Lubbock, TX. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Dominguez is the author of numerous articles in pain management journals and professional medical publications and has presented at national conferences held by the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists.

Founded in 1994, the Steward Centers for Pain Management of Saint Anne’s Hospital offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of chronic pain by board-certified pain physicians, specially trained registered nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, licensed mental health professionals, and other professionals. Together, they evaluate and treat a wide range of pain conditions by using physical conditioning and rehabilitation; medication management; a range of interventional procedures; and psychological interventions, including stress management and relaxation training.

Offices are located at 440 Swansea Mall Drive, Swansea, and at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. New offices will open in nearby Rhode Island and the New Bedford area in the coming months.

Earlier this year, the Retailers Association of Massachusetts was certified by the Division of Insurance as one of the Commonwealth’s first group purchasing cooperatives. In addition to offering the product through the Retailers Association’s group purchasing cooperative, Steward Community Care is available to all small business in the product’s coverage area through FCHP. An advantage for businesses is that Steward Community Care can be offered alongside any one of FCHP’s other network options. This low cost product is the result of an innovative collaboration between a health plan, health care system and small business.

St. Elizabeth’s Recognizes Hard Work by the Allston-Brighton Youth Coalition

St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a member of Steward Health Care, Thompson Reuters Top 100 Hospital and teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, congratulates the Allston-Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force (ABSATF) Youth Coalition for its role in banning alcohol advertisements on public transportation.

The MBTA recently announced it would prohibit alcohol advertisements on its trains and buses, beginning on July 1, 2012. In the months leading up to this decision, the Youth Coalition presented state transportation officials with documentation of alcohol ads on the T along with petitions and resolutions on banning alcohol T ads. St. Elizabeth’s Elizabeth Parsons, who serves as the ABSATF Youth Coalition coordinator, said, “The Youth Coalition worked hard to raise awareness of the impact of alcohol ads that they see every day on public transportation. Thanks to St. Elizabeth’s support, the students were able to follow through on their efforts which resulted in a healthier environment for youth throughout the city, not just in Allston-Brighton.”

Supporting the youth in their awareness campaign, hosting events, and offering prevention resources are a few ways that St. Elizabeth’s actively partners with the Allston-Brighton Substance Abuse Task Force. St. Elizabeth’s is home to SECAP (St. Elizabeth’s Comprehensive Addiction Program), Boston’s first hospital-based addiction recovery program, which has helped thousands of people recover from addiction to alcohol, narcotics and other substances.

First public information session Saturday, Feb. 11th

Starting next month, Good Samaritan Medical Center will introduce a new service line: the Good Samaritan Center for Weight Control.

For the convenience of patients, this program will be locally-based in Brockton but clinically affiliated with St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center - an accredited Level 1 Bariatric Center by the American College of Surgeons.

Under the direction of Anthony McCluney, MD, Good Samaritan Medical Center team members will work closely with each other and with our patients, educating them about weight loss methods and helping each individual decide which options are best for him or her. The Good Samaritan Center for Weight Control will be located in Suite 222E, 830 Oak Street, Brockton, in the Medical Office Building on the Good Samaritan campus.

The first public information session for interested patients will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the J. Joseph Moakley Conference Room at Good Samaritan Medical Center, 235 North Pearl St., Brockton.
